We kicked off our youth group’s Fall 2010 Program with an itikha’f program at the ISGL. Itikha’f, as mentioned in an earlier post,  is an opportunity for one to secure himself/herself in the confines of the masjid to perform acts of worship (reading Qur’an, tahajjud prayer, dhikr, making du’aa). As we are currently in the blessed final ten nights of Ramadan, it is a great opportunity to revive the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, by performing itikha’f in the masjid.

Abdullah ibn Umar, radi Allahu anhu (the son of the second caliph, Umar ibn al-Khattab, radi Allahu anhu), narrated, “Allah’s Messenger, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to practice itikha’f in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 33, Number 242)

Activities we were able to conduct with the youth in our itikha’f program tonight included:

  • Reading Qur’an and reviewing what surahs each brother had memorized
  • Praying tahajjud prayer (with each brother getting the opportunity to lead 2 rak’ah)
  • We ran a few relay races to allow the youth to put their energy to good use before sleeping
  • Sleep
  • Some of the youth woke up 30 minutes before suhoor to pray tahajjud and witr prayer
  • Eat suhoor (light breakfast) before the adhan for Fajr prayer to prepare for fasting Saturday

Jazakum Allahu Khairan to Br.Belkacem, Br. Nabeel, and others for helping to prepare breakfast for the youth!
