Assalamu-alaikum (peace be upon you) our gracious audience members,

What do you do when the skies open up and rain begins pouring down on your planned outdoor soccer tournament? Well, move it indoors of course! Last Friday afternoon, a group of excited, hungry soccer players laced up their gym shoes for the start of our first-ever IYG FIFA Soccer (or futbol) Tournament. After more than 10 hard-fought group stage matches, the tournament bracket for the knockout stage was set. Youth as young as 7 would have to battle peers twice their age (and height!). However what these young lads lacked in height, they made up for in heart. As rain pounded the windows of the ISGL and the skies turned an angry black shade outdoors, the lights flickered onto the field indoors which would mark the location where today’s young champion would emerge. Three hours of competition led to amazing goals (including a phenomenal, sliding game-clinching one-footer by Raad), stalwart defensive tactics by our intelligent young team captains (hat tip to top defender Mustafa and M.V.G Nabeel), much sweat, a few tears, and a little blood. What emerged from all of this madness when the dust settled was one championship team, led by our very own Murtaza S. The pictures below don’t do justice to the intensity of the competition but they do shed light into how hard all of our youth competed earlier this evening:
